HARRISBURG, PA (October 24, 2019) – On October 23, Senator Street joined over 500 advocates from across Pennsylvania who rallied in to demand an end to Death By Incarceration (also known as Life Without Parole) in Pennsylvania.  A broad coalition featuring bipartisan legislators, faith leaders, conservatives and progressives which included many who lost loved ones to violence and have loved ones sentenced to life in prison.

Senator Street Offers Legislation to Restrict Military Grade Weapons in wake of Philadelphia Shooting 

Philadelphia, PA − August 15, 2019 – Senator Sharif Street (D-Philadelphia), today joined Philadelphia Mayor Ji Kenney, Senator Bob Casey, Congressman Evans and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Ross along with a host of elected officials from every level of government to condemn the inaction of state and federal leaders in the wake of chronic gun violence and mass murder, prefaced by the largest mass shooting of Philadelphia law enforcement in recent history.  Six police officers were shot, and dozens more held at bay for hours by a single armed assailant with an assault weapon.

Harrisburg, Pa. − June 24, 2019 − Members of the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Caucus today jointly sent a letter to Governor Tom Wolf requesting a disaster declaration for gun violence in the Commonwealth.

“We believe it is necessary to raise the public’s awareness of the massive loss of human life and the suffering inflicted on affected family, friends and neighbors where this tragedy is unfolding daily,” they wrote. “Just as you have signed six disaster declarations to provide every tool at the Commonwealth’s disposal to combat the opioid epidemic, the death toll and impact from illegal guns should merit immediate and coordinated attention.”
